I became involved in media literacy education after more than 30 years in corporate and non-profit marketing, communications and public relations, and now bring this training and experience to promoting media literacy. I'm passionate about helping people understand the influence and impact of media. This field embodies my major areas of interest: communications; analysis; critical thinking; advertising/public relations; and the political, environmental and social impacts of media.

  • Founding member of the Alliance for a Media Literate America (AMLA) and the Action Coalition for Media Education (ACME).
  • More than 25 years experience in communications, marketing and public relations for non-profit organizations, small businesses and large corporations.
  • Graduate of the Center for Media Literacy's (CML) Felton Scholars Training Program.
  • Extensive public speaking and media interview (TV, radio, newspaper) experience.
  • Marketing communications consultant to the Center for Media Literacy, 1998-2000.
  • Workshop presenter at the AMLA's 2005 National Media Education Conference (NMEC). Moderated panels and plenary sessions at the 2001, 1999 and 1998 NMECs.
  • Publicity chair, 2005 and 2007 National Media Education Conference.
  • Conceived the internet promotional strategy used to successfully launch ACME in 2002.
  • Continuing professional education in media literacy through attendance at related professional conferences, including: Consuming Kids: Marketing in Schools and Beyond in 2006; National Conference on Media Reform National Conference on Media Reform in 2005 and 2003; Children,Youth and the Media: Beyond the Millennium media literacy education conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, May 2000; and the Conference on Culture, Education, and Media: Vital Solutions sponsored by the New Mexico Media Alliance, 1998.

I'm married and live with my husband and teenage son in Grass Valley, California, in the Sierra foothills near Sacramento.
